Hello, my name is Shamera and I am a foodaholic.
Now that we have that out of the way.. We can get to the good stuff! As an army brat, I moved EVERY. THREE. YEARS. New places, new people, and new experiences were the norm. Yet, all that moving never stopped my dad's country roots from shining through. Breakfast at my house was always rice (yes, rice!) with eggs, bacon, ham, sausage and beautiful buttermilk biscuits... Don't forget the molasses! The protein and carbs were ever flowing, but vegetables? ...Eh
I can remember watching my grandparents grow older. It seemed like gaining weight and developing diabetes were ordinary parts of aging. It wasn’t until I went off to (Spelman) college that I learned otherwise. I began to understand the importance of nutrition. I realized that gaining weight and battling chronic disease did not have to be my story, but that meant I had to take control of my own health.
Health is not what we do, it is who we are. Simply filling my belly with greens or filling my schedule with quick workouts was not enough for me to make a sustainable lifestyle change. I had to first tend to my spirit. Once I became full on faith, I began to experience life more abundantly.
